The Orange County Lawmen are excited to announce the return of the Officer Bob Henry Memorial Scholarship. This
scholarship is awarded to an Orange County high school graduating student-athlete that will be attending college in the
fall. The recipient is carefully selected based on character, integrity, discipline, commitment, dedication, hard work and
volunteerism, all the traits that were embodied by Officer Henry.
Officer Bob Henry was a Newport Beach Police Officer and a member of the Orange County Stars football team. He
was shot in the line of duty on March 12, 1995. He later succumbed to his wounds. He is the only member of the Orange County Cop Bowl organization to lose his life in the line of duty.
Bob was not the star athlete or best player on the team. Nevertheless, he was the heart of the team. He was the first
arrive and last to leave. He gave his all to be the best he could be and would do anything he could to help his
teammates and partners. He worked hard to make his teammates better and always had an upbeat attitude, even in
the face of adversity.
Bob’s work ethic also translated into work and school. He was not the brightest student, but he was the hardest
working student. He was the student that you knew would be successful because he was willing to put the work and
effort necessary. He was the kid that was most deserving of a scholarship because he would make great use of it, but
because he was not the star athlete or did not have the highest GPA, would be overlooked.
The Officer Bob Henry Memorial Scholarship strives to find the student-athletes that exhibit these traits to ensure they
are recognized and honored for their character. If you or someone you know a graduating senior that displays these traits and would be interested in receiving this scholarship award, please have them apply be submitting the following:
1) 1 page Resume (including academic achievements, athletic achievements, volunteer work, etc.)
2) 2 page essay discussing the importance of character, integrity, discipline, commitment, dedication, hard work and volunteerism
3) 3 reference letters (1 from a parent or guardian, 1 from a Coach, 1 from anyone else)
We will select the finalist and schedule them for an oral board panel interview at a time and place TBD. Please submit
all applications by scanning and emailing them to president@oclawmen.org or mail to Orange County Lawmen P.O. Box 532, Santa Ana, CA 92702. The award amount is to be determined based on ongoing fundraising.
Respectfully,
